First Baby Photo!

April 9th, 2007

Jessie and I had our ultrasound appointment this morning. The ultrasound confirmed our suspicion, Jessie does in fact have a baby growing inside of her!

Although I’m still not sure if the baby was waving at us or flipping us the bird, it was incredibly cool to see the baby and its movement for the first time.

Also quite cool was the option provided to have the image burnt onto a CD-R disc. This will certainly be an awesome keepsake to hold on to. The baby will certainly be born into a world more high-tech then the one I originally came into. How many of us have CD-R’s of our earliest moments kicking around?

Pimpin’ the Mini on a Budget

April 8th, 2007

I decided it was time to upgrade my Mac Mini as it’s always been a little sluggish with the factory installed 512 MB of memory.

Picked up a couple Kingston 1 GB modules (KVR667D2S5/1G) from the local Memory Express ($99.95 each). I was a little hesitant to use the Kingston ValueRAM as opposed to the system specific Kingston kit (KTA-MB667K2/2G) but the cheapskate in me opted for the ValueRAM for approximately $70 less.

As for the tools, I ran to Canadian Tire to pick-up a handy Mastercraft putty knife ($6.29) and some sandpaper ($2.49). Two hours of struggling and $208.68 later, the Mini is now equipped with a whopping 2 GB of RAM.

Special thanks goes out to the wife for having more patience then I did in getting those last two screws in place while reassembling the unit.

So far the machine seems stable and the performance difference in the machine is pretty dramatic. At $239.32 dollars less than WestWorld quoted upgrade price of $448, the whole exercise seems to have been a success.

Complete Overhaul!

April 6th, 2007

My experimentation with WordPress over the last couple of days has proven a worthy endeavor.

After over five years of running Incoherency.Net, it’s time for an overhaul. I’ve now migrated the site over to it’s new home (www.denis.lemire.name) and migrated any significant content over to WordPress.

I may keep incoherency.net as the domain for my home network, or phase it out entirely, I have not decided on all the details yet. It’s been a long time since I’ve done any major updates to the backend of this site, and overall it needed a fresh new look.

Playing in the world of WordPress.

April 4th, 2007

I wanted to eventually do some content for this site but I’ve been far too lazy to continue with my purist ways. Instead of skillfully crafting yet another site in Vi, I figured I’d give WordPress a try and see what all the fuss is about.

So far so good. The installation was very smooth. I was able to write my own mod_rewrite rules and keep the WordPress files in their own directory, while still having it appear at the root URL of this site. This allows me to also have non-WordPress managed content.

My previous and aging attempt at a site was suffering from stale content due to me not having the time to jump through the hoops of updating it. The previous site was powered by my own slapped together code which is very heavily showing its age. In spite of its MySQL based content storage, it is actual a royal pain to post to (requires manual editing of MySQL tables). I’ve contemplated rewriting it, but who’s got the time?

The Wedding, Honeymoon and Pregnant Wife

January 20th, 2007

Don’t adjust your monitor, it’s true. After nearly two years I’ve finally posted something onto this page. A lot has changed in the time that has passed. So much so that it becomes difficult to know where to start with this post. With all that has happened, plus all the changes in my life that are approaching, and the fact that I’ve certainly enjoyed looking back at previous posts, I’ve decided it is definitely time to take a moment and write.

My wife is in bed, she wasn’t feeling too well this evening so decided to call it quits early. Pregnancy will do that to a woman, I guess. That’s right. I said wife, and I said pregnant.

Since my last post, I’ve managed to get married. I’ve been married to Jessie since April 29th of last year. The wedding and honeymoon both took place without a hitch. To add more excitement. I found out shortly before Christmas that I somehow impregnated her, how cool is that?

I’m sure there will be plenty to write about in the coming months, perhaps I’ll even take the time to do so. Stay tuned for more!
